Fixed staircase to attic

Do you want to make a fixed staircase to the attic, to better integrate the attic into your home? We can offer you a complete package for this. We make the hole and supply and install a suitable steel construction (if necessary), then we place the fixed staircase to the attic. In homes with a loft ladder, we close the loft ladder hole again using reinforcement and concrete.

On this page we will show the process as clearly as possible. However, there are many situations conceivable. If you have an unusual situation, we would be happy to think along with you!

Where does the staircase fit best?

When a fixed staircase is installed, a larger stairwell is first sawn, or the stairwell must be moved. Unfortunately, this is not possible everywhere, but we are happy to discuss the options with you. If moving the stairwell is possible, we will close the old loft stairwell for you, so that you no longer have to worry about that either.

Costs of fixed stairs to the attic

The costs for making the fixed staircase to the attic consist of concrete work and the staircase itself. Depending on the type of concrete floor, the costs vary. Also, not every type of concrete floor requires a steel construction that supports the floor after the hole has been made. This is a major variable in the costs of installing an attic staircase. In most cases, we determine what type of floor you have based on photos.

Free quote

After we have determined what type of floor you have, we will send you a completely free quote within 24 hours for the realization of a fixed staircase. In some cases, we will visit the location or make a construction calculation of the desired loft ladder. In that case, we always try to give a guideline price for the work in advance. This way, you know what to expect before you incur costs.

In addition to the concrete work, your wishes regarding the staircase are important for the final costs. The biggest variable is whether you want an open or closed staircase and what the dimensions of the staircase should be. In addition, we can possibly supply a staircase with or without a railing, or mount a gate at the top of the staircase.

We can also saw a stairwell in channel plate floors and install a fixed staircase to the attic.

How do we make a permanent staircase to the attic?

Draw out

Our day always starts with drawing the stairwell for the fixed staircase to the attic. Because we can only saw from above, we draw the stairwell at the top. To determine the dimensions of the attic stairs, we drill holes from below in the corners of the desired stairwell, so that we saw the exact right size above. Then we support the floor with props and place a drip tray under the desired opening for the attic stairs.

Saw

The stairwell is then sawn from above with a diamond saw. To cool the saw and limit the dust, we always use a small amount of water. This water is collected in the collection container. After sawing, we chop the concrete into pieces in the collection container. We clean up the rubble and remove it. At that moment, you have a neat new stairwell in which we place the attic ladder.

Installing steel construction

In some cases, a steel structure must be installed to support the floor. We have most solutions in stock. This structure must be installed before the props are removed.

Fill in old stairwell

At the end of the day we fill the old stairwell. To do this we drill into the edges of the old stairwell, then we chemically anchor new rods of reinforcement. A reinforcement mesh is placed on these new rods. Then we make a formwork that we prop up against the ceiling from the bottom. Then we fill the hole with concrete.

Spray Drying

Before the props are removed, the concrete must dry for 48 hours. After this period, the floor can be loaded. This way we know for sure that all the concrete has hardened and that the props plus associated formwork can be safely removed.

Measuring fixed staircase to attic

When the hole for the attic stairs has been made, we measure the fixed stairs to the attic. This allows the production of the stairs to start immediately. Because we only make the attic stairs after the stair hole is final, you get the best result. The delivery time of the stairs is between one and three weeks

How long does it take to install a staircase to the attic?

In most situations we can complete the concrete work within a day, which means that the greatest inconvenience is short-lived. The stairs are measured after the hole has been made. We usually install the attic stairs within 3 weeks after the concrete work has been completed. In the meantime, the attic is only accessible to a limited extent via the new stairwell with its own ladder. After a maximum of 3 weeks you can enjoy the fixed stairs to the attic.

FAQ

I don't know whether it is structurally sound to have a stairwell cut, can you help me with this?

Certainly! We can often determine from photos whether a hole can simply be made in the floor. Making the hole is always possible, but sometimes steel is needed to support the floor once the hole is in it. We have an approved standard solution for this. If it concerns larger holes or unusual situations, we can do this together with a structural engineer. Contact us now for the potential.

Can you also make a structural calculation for me?

Certainly! However, a structural calculation is not always necessary. In some cases, the VVE or the municipality requires a structural calculation. We have a permanent structural engineer with whom we work. The structural calculation is often received within a week.

Is someone coming by to check out the situation?

Because we want to be competitive in our prices, we try to prevent this. We therefore always try to see if we can get a clear enough picture of the situation first by video calling or with photos. In most cases, we can make a quote without coming by. If this is difficult, we can of course always make an appointment.

Can you make me a no-obligation quote?

Our quotes are always without obligation. We also strive to always set a fixed price for the work, so you always know where you stand.

How does payment work for you?

We always send an invoice afterwards via email. The invoice also contains a QR code that you can scan with your phone.
